What is Triggered Tuesdays

Triggered Tuesdays will be a regular theme day post. On each Tuesday I will be giving my opinion on something which relates to my topic that irks me. The subjects of these posts will vary and will be to the point. 

Triggered Tuesday's First Post 

One of my favorite movies of all time was Beverly Hills Cop. I watched this movie countless times, so much that I can almost remember what each character says line for line. It was a pleasant mixture of action and comedy. Unlike other movies it managed to incorporate these genres very well. Due to its success sequels were made. The sequels were met with harsh reviews, so harsh that people like Dennis King commented, "Looks like it's time for Axel Foley to hang up his Detroit lions jacket and retire his badge and gun". This comment was a reference to the lead star Eddie Murphy. Dennis and many others felt the acting fell below expectations.

The Power of Critique

Due to the hate a fourth movie of this series was not made. Many people believe that Eddie Murphy was being held back by lacking script. After all he was a very talented actor as seen in the first movie. A sequel after over a decade was announced to be released sometime in 2016. Many people were afraid the script would be lacking including Eddie Murphy himself. He commented, "They['re] still trying to get that script right. I'm not doing a Beverly Hills Cop unless they have a really incredible script. I've read a couple things that look like they can make some paper, but I'm not doing a shitty movie just to make some paper. This shit got to be right". In short Eddie Murphy wants the best acting he can deliver and the best movie possible for his fans.

What Irks me

Actors being held back by script is nothing new. Sadly, many films with incredible potential are held back by lazy writers. Some producers expect lines to be followed directly making the acting seem corny. There has been numerous occasions in which I had to stop watching a movie or show because of robotic script reading. Allowing actors to improvise makes it seem all the more realistic. Acting is almost like a joke the more spontaneous it is the funnier and the more lively it will be. This form of acting is called retroscripting. One source defines it, "A retroscripted script contains a plot outline and leaves dialogue deliberately vague for interpretation by the actors through improvisation". Image This image represents the gloom critics can bring over good films. The clouds disguise the beauty the same way hate can disguise the art. The road represents the long path of hate. Critiques should be judgmental, but not over petty details. If I let the corn distract me from the power of this image, then I'm not truly admiring the art. Critiques should critique, but be optimistic and detailed. I'm not saying every film is good, but their not all bad either.

It's easy to hate and sadly to much hate is being spread. This review comments about "Braveheart", but critiques that more fighting was done than thinking. One of the main points in the movie was brains over bronze. Although there was fighting, it was done as last resort to gain their freedom. The victories were achieved by using intelligent tactics to out play the English. Just because there was fighting does not mean brains had nothing to do with the film. Another review critiques the film "Gladiator" over the action being sword combat. I'm not saying you have to enjoy these scenes, but you're watching a movie titled gladiator. I would expect many of the action scenes would be sword combat. The movie was great to me it was thrilling and suspenseful. The dark overtone of the movie allowed the scenes to feel this way. I truly felt the main character could die at any moment. As always feel free to comment your opinions and critiques are always welcome.

How this blog came to be.

The topic for this blog came from me wanting to do reviews and such on movies in a more positive light. It seems mainstream critics have become overly harsh. Movies that I have fallen in love with have received hate for ridiculous reasons. It's important for me to give fair reviews so great works of art are not ignored.

Why listen to me?

My interest for action movies started at a young age. I grew up watching some of the greats including but not limited to Rambo, Die hard and Gladiator. I offer a unique unbiased perspective. I pride myself on being different and will not spread hate because the prior critic before me has. Movies that I review will be as diverse as my taste. I have liked sci-fi action movies, comedy action movies and so on.

What this blog hopes to achieve. 

This blog does not seek to discredit the validity of reviews on sites such as https://www.rottentomatoes.com. It simply wishes to add another opinion. People have diverse taste the internet allows each to be shared through multiple means. 

I hope to post detailed reviews that are fair. I will make them interesting, but informative. Any critiques I have of a film will be explained and put up for debate.  I hope readers that are as interested in movies as I am share their opinions. I do not claim to be all knowing and hope through discussion conclusions can be reached. In movies suggestions are welcomed and any comments.
